Why join ARC?

ARC is the only trade union that focuses exclusively on issues affecting senior managers and professionals in HMRC. We act as a powerful voice for the people whose work provides the money for all our vital public services.

ARC represents around 2,500 senior officials, lawyers and tax professionals in HMRC, at Grade 7 and above, as well as trainees in Grade 7 entry schemes.

By joining ARC you will also be joining our parent union the FDA, which represents more than 18,000 senior managers, policy advisors, diplomats, tax professionals, economists, solicitors, prosecutors and other professionals working across Government and the NHS.

As a public sector union, we strive to improve your terms and conditions, workplaces, skills and working lives. We believe in engaging with employers — not working against them. We help to identify and deal with concerns before they become real problems. We will support you if you have problems at work with individual casework and representation, and with legal action if necessary.

As a professional association, we promote and protect your interests. We influence policy on your behalf, and run events where you can network with colleagues and talk about matters of common interest. We also help you to develop your professionalism and skills, further your careers and meet the Civil Service Competency Framework requirements.

We defend the reputation of our members by acting as their voice in the media, and with ministers and  civil service management. This is especially important because civil servants are not usually allowed to defend themselves publicly.

We also provide financial and legal help and a range of money-saving discounts through FDA Portfolio.
