Vicky Johnson, former ARC president

She has worked all her life, to the best of my knowledge she never had any time off sick and rarely missed a day (even when my brother or I were ill). She strives to remain independent as she gets older and her memory fades.

I think that without her, I wouldn’t be where I am now although she probably still hasn’t forgiven me for going into tax and not human rights. She taught about the international human rights framework in relation to cultural relativism, feminism, Marxism and all sorts of things I had never really engaged with rigorously before.

Entering the final straight

A highlight this weekend was my eldest daughter completing a mini triathlon in Stratford – swimming 400m in a pool, riding 18k on her bike and running 5k to finish. This from someone who has never been that sporty and who describes herself as ‘doing a running action’ rather than running!
